Australia Day, Sydney Harbour, NSW

Brand: Ken Duncan Images Of Australia (Crown & Andrews) - The World's Most Beautiful Jigsaw Puzzles
Pieces: 504
Size: 64cm x 24cm
Product Code:   -

Yesterday, January 26, was Australia Day- a public holiday!

It's meant to be a day when Australian's celebrate the anniversary of the First Fleet landing on Australian shores in 1788, thus paving the way for colonization of the country.

But in recent years, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the day- particularly for indigenous Australians who have renamed the day 'Invasion Day' and want Australia Day celebrations to fall on a more inclusive day for everyone.

At the moment, things are still up in the air about the future of Australia Day, but until then, it will continue to be a day filled with Aussie flags, barbecues and a day off with family and friends (if you're lucky enough to get time off work).

Above is a puzzle that I found by renowned Australian photographer Ken Duncan, featuring a scene on the Sydney Harbour from Australia Day in previous years past. This panoramic puzzle was quite easy to do, despite all the yachts and boats dotted throughout the picture, and the quality was wonderful.

It's rare that I can find a puzzle that fits perfectly with a day's theme- so I was happy to find this one to put up from my collection!

Disney Character World

Brand: Tenyo
Pieces: 1000
Size: 29.7cm x 42cm
Product Code:   DW-1000-260

It's time for another Disney puzzle!

Even though I've done a few Disney-themed puzzles since posting the last one, I have decided to hold off on posting up the pictures so that I can showcase other brands/themes of puzzles as well. After all, I love doing all types of jigsaw puzzles- not just Disney- and I like to give them all a fair go on my blog/ Instagram!

So anyway, after a bit of a posting break, here is another...

This one is from the Japanese brand Tenyo. I absolutely adore this brand- the pieces are always of the highest quality, their designs are wonderful and best of all, they often are made up of smaller pieces, which means that you can usually fit a 1000 piece puzzle onto a smaller board. This in turn means a smaller working space- great if you don't have much room allocated for putting together puzzles!

This design drew me because of the assorted Disney imagery. It features a fantastic mix of old and new characters, all laid out in a charming collage style.

Any fans of Disney are sure to love the iconic scenes pictured from some of Disney's best-loved films- I know I certainly did!

Lockey's Oyster Shed

Brand: Blue Opal Deluxe
Pieces: 1000
Size: 69cm x 49cm
Product Code:   BL01707

This weekend is the Portarlington Mussel Festival, which is held in Portarlington (obviously), a suburb on the Bellarine Peninsula not too far from my own. Tourists and locals alike- who have a taste for these edible molluscs- flock to take part in this celebration and enjoy the local produce. I for one have never really been a fan of mussels, but good on them for enjoying something different.

In saying that, I have decided to put up a puzzle featuring Jenny Sanders' artwork Lockey's Oyster Shed. I know mussels and oysters are entirely different, but it was the closest comparison I could find! Renowned for her paintings of classic Australian cars, there aren't actually any oysters featured in this picture (just the location name), but I thought the summery vibes given out by the image were more than adequate.

As with all of the puzzles featuring her work, this was a pleasure to do. The colours are vibrant and the quality of the pieces wonderful. I'm determined to work my way through all of the designs in this series, and any others that pop up over time...

Sleeping Beauty

Brand: Masterpieces Puzzle Co.
Pieces: 1000
Size: 49cm x 68cm
Product Code:   -

Happy new year!

It's set to be a scorcher today in Victoria, and along the East Coast of Australia, and I was thinking of putting up a summer-themed puzzle because of this. But then I reconsidered and decided to put up the above puzzle instead! I have been so tired lately, with a lot of broken sleep due to the weather and late nights, so I thought a picture of Sleeping Beauty might be appropriate (cos she is what I ain't!).

The above puzzle is from a company I have not previously had any experience with, but I still thoroughly enjoyed. The design on each piece was quite detailed and colourful, and the pieces were of a similar ilk to the ones that SunsOut produce- weird and wacky shapes that could go anywhere but fit together perfectly when you get them in the right place.

A lovely take on a classic fairytale, this puzzle took me a little bit longer to do than I expected but the end result was worth it. There are other fairytale designs in this series and I intend to do them all eventually. Another cool thing about these puzzles are the boxes they come in, which are shaped like books- you open up the box (as though it is a book) to reveal the puzzle pieces inside! This makes them the perfect gift for puzzlers who enjoy reading :) This design is also painted by Aimee Stewart, a well-known artist- so you know that the resulting picture is top quality!
